A journey of service and spirituality: MFIS learners on the road to Umrah

Malek Fahd Islamic School (MFIS) continues its mission to nurture compassionate and capable leaders through its recent Leadership Program in partnership with Human Appeal Australia and an inspiring Umrah voyage.

Designed to offer real-world service, cultural insight, and spiritual reflection, this journey provided Secondary learners with an unparalleled educational experience rooted in Islamic values.

The journey began in Jordan, where learners visited a refugee camp in the north. They participated in distributing aid and shared a meal with refugee families—an emotional and humbling experience that deepened their empathy and global awareness. At an orphan centre in Amman, learners engaged with children through stories and activities, experiencing firsthand the power of compassion and community.

Beyond humanitarian service, learners explored key historical and Islamic sites. From the dramatic desert landscapes of Wadi Rum to the sacred grounds of Mu’tah—resting place of companions Ja’far ibn Abi Talib, Zayd ibn Harithah, and Abdullah ibn Rawahah—the journey provided valuable lessons in courage and sacrifice.

Visits to the Dead Sea, Roman Theatre, Jerash, Ajloun Castle, and the cave of the Seven Sleepers connected learners with their Islamic and regional heritage. Stops at the resting places of Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah and Muadh ibn Jabal reinforced the legacy of prophetic companions.

The journey culminated in Madinah and Makkah. Learners spent five reflective days in Madinah visiting the Prophet’s Mosque before performing Umrah in Makkah. These sacred days offered time for prayer, group reflections, and a deep spiritual reconnection.

A leadership program like no other

MFIS’s Leadership Program reflects the school’s Islamic philosophy of nurturing balanced individuals who lead with humility, knowledge, and service. Through real-world immersion and faith-based learning, learners returned not only inspired but equipped with skills to lead.

As the Prophet Muhammad (s) said, “The leader of the people is their servant” (Sahih Muslim)—a value that underpins the entire experience.
