[ Greenacre ] MFIS Greenacre had the honour of hosting Sheikh Zahir Bacchus from Toronto, Canada.
Sheikh Zahir is a respected Islamic scholar, having studied at the University of Damascus in the 1990s and trained under renowned contemporary scholars such as Sheikh Khalid Kharsa and Sheikh Hussein al-Darwish. He is the founding principal of Lote Tree School in Canada and serves as the imam of his local mosque.
Sheikh Zahir has made significant contributions to Islamic education, most notably through the Islamic Teachers Education Program—a pioneering initiative focused on training educators and developing curriculum grounded in the Islamic tradition.
During his visit, our school engaged in rich and meaningful discussions with Sheikh Zahir around Islamic pedagogy, educator purpose, and the shared experiences of Islamic schools in Canada and Australia. The exchange of insights reaffirmed our commitment to nurturing education anchored in the Islamic worldview.
We thank Sheikh Zahir for his time and contributions, and we look forward to continued collaboration in the pursuit of excellence in Islamic education.
